The lowest unit price is not always the lowest project cost
When a new terminal project starts, price is usually one of the first numbers discussed.
But the terminal price is only part of the cost. Tool maintenance, crimp adjustments, scrap, engineering changes and production interruptions can become more expensive than a small difference in piece price.
For that reason, evaluate the manufacturing process before comparing quotations too closely.
Can the supplier understand your application?
A capable custom crimp terminal manufacturer should ask questions before giving a confident answer.
What wire are you using? What is the conductor construction? What current is required? What connector housing will the terminal enter? What is the annual volume? What environmental conditions apply?
These questions determine material, terminal geometry, crimp structure and plating.
If a supplier can quote immediately without understanding the application, it is worth checking what assumptions are behind that quote.
Who controls the tooling?
For stamped terminals, the progressive die is one of the most important assets in the program.
Tool design affects geometry, production speed, material use and long-term stability. The OEM should know who designs the die, who maintains it and how engineering changes are handled.
JDE Auto's manufacturing scope includes precision metal stamping and connector terminal production, keeping tooling and production decisions connected.
How will the terminal be validated?
A terminal should not be approved just because it looks correct.
Depending on the application, validation can include dimensional inspection, crimp-height checks, pull-out testing, cross-section analysis, mating force and electrical checks.
JDE Auto is IATF 16949 certified. Its quality approach includes incoming material checks, in-process inspection and final inspection. For automotive work, process control matters because the goal is consistent production, not simply a good first sample.

Can the supplier handle production volume?
Prototype production and mass production are different jobs.
At volume, tool wear, material variation, machine settings and crimp tooling all become part of the process. The supplier needs a plan for maintaining critical dimensions and responding to normal production changes.
Before approving a supplier, ask what will happen after SOP. That answer is often more useful than a prototype capability list.
OEM and ODM support
Some customers arrive with a finished drawing. Others know what the connector needs to achieve but want help developing the terminal.
JDE Auto works as an OEM & ODM manufacturer. Customers can provide drawings and specifications for manufacturing, or involve the supplier earlier for design, material, tooling and production discussions.
The important thing is to agree on engineering responsibility before tooling begins.
A practical RFQ checklist
For a custom crimp terminal RFQ, provide a terminal drawing or 3D file if available, wire size and conductor specification, connector housing or mating interface, current requirements, material or plating requirements, expected volume and required testing.
If something is not decided yet, say so. A good supplier should identify what needs to be resolved instead of quietly making assumptions.
What makes a supplier worth keeping
The best supplier relationship is not built around one successful sample.
It is built around how the supplier behaves when the drawing changes, production volume increases, tooling needs maintenance or a production issue needs a quick answer.
For automotive terminals, consistency and communication are as important as the initial price. The question is whether the supplier can help you get the part right, keep it right and support it after SOP.
